This thesis explores the optimization of an axial turbine design for use in an Oscillating Water Column (OWC), specifically focusing on the potential for improved performance and energy efficiency using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). In the face of rising energy demands, the ability to harness ocean wave energy efficiently is of considerable importance. However, the technological development of Wave Energy Converters (WECs), particularly the intricacies of air turbine design within the OWC system. A unidirectional axial turbine, integral to the conversion of pneumatic power to mechanical energy, was the central focus of this research. The study implemented a three-step approach for design optimization using a 3D-CFD model. This involved the creation of parametric geometries of rotor blades and guide vanes by modifying various geometric parameters, the use of a Design Exploration process employing the Central Composite Design (CCD) method to populate the design space, and the application of response surface optimization algorithms to assess parameter impacts on turbine performance. Particularly, the Genetic Aggregation algorithm was instrumental in generating the response surfaces. Key parameters, such as guide vane radius (Rg), rotor tip radius (Rt), pressure side radius on the rotor (Rr), trailing edge relative angle of the rotor (β2), and guide vane angle (α1), were identified and modified to achieve the optimal turbine geometry. Notably, guide vane angle (α1) was identified as the most sensitive parameter for efficiency enhancement. The optimized turbine design, compared to the initial design, displayed a remarkable 28% increase in efficiency at low flow coefficients and significant reductions in energy losses within
