The Business Information Systems (BIS) department offers two undergraduate majors: Management Information Systems (MIS) and E-Commerce. While the former major, MIS, was established in the early 1990s to reflect the fact that information technology is the backbone of businesses, the latter major, E-Commerce, was established in 2005 as a response to the impact of the Internet on business practices in the current time. The following paragraph shed some light on the two majors.
Since their early time, computers have played a major role in conducting business. This role started by automating financial computations and followed by a whole set of applications that automate the daily work and generate periodic reports. As time progressed and with the emergence of computer networks, the role of computers has evolved to support decision making at middle management level and at the senior management level which involved new areas like knowledge management and expert systems. Currently, the filed of MIS spans a set of applications such as ERP (e.g., Oracle Business Suite), DSS, MIS, and Business Intelligence.
The E-Commerce major came as a response from the AASTMT to the emergence of the E-commerce field which resulted in from the commercialization of the Internet.  In 2005, AASTMT established the E-commerce department (now part of BIS) and launched the E-Commerce program within the business school with a clear vision to build on its expertise and resources to produce graduates that meet the growing market needs of business students with strong background and hands-on skills in information and communication technology. After four years of launching the program, the first class of graduates of the program have been well-received by the market.
As with the rapid change in the field and the strategy of continuous improvement, the program has undergone a significant evolution to offer three concentrations within the major itself. Currently enrolled and newly admitted students can a concentration by ing a set of elective courses that complement the required courses and provide advanced knowledge and hands-on skills in one of the following concentrations: Web development, Web Design, and E-Applications.
Since its inception, the E-Commerce program has been designed to be applied, case study oriented, and rapidly developing. In order to accommodate the unprecedented change in the field, two courses have been left with flexible contents that address the new trends in the field. Additionally, a year-around cap stone graduation project course is designed to provide graduates with solid and advanced application and integration of the concepts and skills acquired in the other courses. Moreover, students are exposed to the work environment through an internship in the business and governmental organizations in the field of e-commerce and e-government.
The department has been strengthening its relationships with industry, government, and non-profit organizations. For instance, the department has an agreement of collaboration with the Administrative    Development ministry of the Arab Republic of Egypt. Moreover, in summer 2009, the BIS department has joined the eAladin network of “e” universities. This network which started first as Alpine Adrian network of European universities interested in all the “e” areas such as e-commerce, e-government, and e-health has been extended to include AASTMT and several other world-renowned  universities.

- Communicate feedback from students concerning new opinions, requirements or complaints.
- Offer summer training job opportunities for students in private & public institutions & organizations.
- Provide teaching methods to enhance and improve students’ professional skills.
- Integrating information technology & research concept in the learning process.
