Announce Sustainable Engineering Management Master’s Degree Program Summer 2012

Engineering managers hold unique positions in business and industry because of their ability to blend technical engineering skills with a balance of essential business and management skills. They plan, lead, coordinate, and drive the direction of design, research and development, and production in organizations. As competitive pressures continue to reshape the typical role of the engineer from one that was largely technical to one that encompasses business and management, individuals with skills that bridge that gap will have a distinct advantage over their competitors. Hence the vision to develop an internationally recognized educational program in Sustainable Engineering Management was created.

Summer 2012 Offerings are:
CE 600 Sustainable Engineering Design
Course topics will include:  (1) Issues of resource efficiency, economics, ethics, waste, human health, environmental justice, and industrial ecology (2) Alternative practices that significantly reduce adverse environmental impacts of built infrastructure, and (3) Explore past and present thinking of engineering practitioners in this newly emerging discipline ~ Jason Kirby Ph.D.

CE 604 International Engineering Contracts and Law
Provides an overview of the fundamental aspects of the law that affects engineering companies as well as the project owners.  Particular emphasis is placed on contract forms and provisions related to liability for engineering design companies. ~ Wood Herren J.D., Michael Knapp, J.D.

The UAB Master of Engineering in Engineering Management has been repackaged for delivery to AASTMT in a new format beginning the academic year 2012/2013.  Students enrolled in the program can complete their degree in a period of 18 months at a cost of $10,500, while studying at AASTMT in Alexandria Egypt.  UAB faculty and administration will conduct two site visits over two consecutive summers for onsite orientation and instruction, and to oversee the master’s degree research work.  The program is designed for online/blended instruction to facilitate year round interactions among faculty and students.  This is a new UAB master’s designation that has been specifically developed for AASTMT graduate students.  The degree conferred to program graduates will be the UAB Master of Engineering with focus in Engineering Management.  Additionally, AASTMT students in the program may also receive a Master’s of Science in one of the specific engineering disciplines offered by AASTMT.
