  • Aims and Outcomes of Graduate Program


    Program general aims

     

        The holder of the Master of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering should be able to:

    1.  Deal with complex issues systematically and creatively, make sound judgments in the absence of a complete data, and communicate their conclusions clearly to specialist and non-specialist audiences.

    2. Demonstrate self-direction and originality in tackling and solving problems, and act autonomously in planning and implementing tasks at a professional or equivalent level.

    3.  Continue to advance their knowledge and understanding, and to develop new skills to a high level:

      a-Make decisions in complex and unpredictable situations.

      b-Have the independent learning ability required for continuing professional development.

     

    Intended Learning outcomes (ILOs) of the program

    1 Knowledge and Understanding

    1.    A comprehensive understanding of the scientific principles of own specialization and related disciplines.

    2.    An awareness of developing technologies related to own specialization

    3.    A comprehensive knowledge and understanding of mathematical and computer models relevant to engineering discipline, and an appreciation of their limitations.

    4.    An understanding of concepts from a range of areas including some outside engineering, and the ability to apply them effectively in engineering projects.

    5.    Acknowledge ethical and legislative principles for practicing the mechanical engineering profession.

    6.    Acknowledge principles and ethics of scientific research.

     

    2 Intellectual / Cognitive Skills

    1.    Ability to use fundamental knowledge to investigate new and emerging technologies.

    2.    Ability to apply mathematical and computer based models for solving problems in engineering, and the ability to access the limitations of particular cases.

    3.    Ability to extract data pertinent to unfamiliar problem, and apply in its solution using computer based engineering tools when appropriate.

    4.    Analyze and appraise data and information in order to solve engineering problems.

    5.    Conduct a research project and/or write scientific study for a specific case study.

     

    3 Practical and Professional Skills

    1.    Wide knowledge and comprehensive understanding of the design processes and methodologies and the ability to apply and adapt them in unfamiliar situations.

    2.    Ability to generate an innovative design for products, systems, components or processes to fulfill needs.

    3.     A thorough understanding of current practice and its limitations, and environmental impacts.

    4.    Write and assess technical reports

    5.    Assess methods and tools utilized within the mechanical engineering discipline.

    4 General and Transferable Skills

    1.    The ability to develop, monitor and update a plan to reflect a changing operating environment.

    2.    The ability to monitor and adjust a personal program of work on an on-going basis, and top learn independently

    3.    An understanding of different roles within a team, and the ability to exercise leadership.

    4.    The ability to learn new theories, concepts, methods, etc… in unfamiliar situations.

    5.    Communicate effectively with others

    6.    Use different resources for obtaining information.

    7.    Establish rules and indices for performance measurements of personnel.
