- An ability to apply knowledge of mathematics, science, and engineering

- An ability to apply probability and statistical methods to naval architecture, marine and offshore engineering problems.
- An ability to understand, follow, and apply regulations, rules, guidelines issued by ship classification societies, offshore industry bodies, national and international authorities
- An ability to appreciate, implement, and apply environmental issues related to marine and offshore engineering
- An ability to understand , follow, and apply risk assessment and disaster reduction strategies in the marine and offshore engineering systems.
