Upgrading Studies and Mandatory Courses

Upgrading Studies:

The Upgrading Studies is in charge of qualifying and training deck officers and marine engineers to obtain the specialized marine certificates which qualify them to work on board ships and carriers of all types according to the requirements of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watch keeping Convention for Seafarers (STCW95) as amended. to promote the candidates’ mastery of all types of practical applications, It merits mentioning that the Programs qualifies deck officers and marine engineers to serve on board specialized ships which require mastery of special practical and scientific techniques.  To this end, the Programs hold special training sessions. 

The Upgrading Studies includes the following:

A: Master and Marine Officers
  • Third Mate Certificate of Competency
  • Second Mate Certificate of Competency
  • First Mate Certificate of Competency
  • Master certificate of competency

B: Marine Engineers

  • Third Marine Engineer certificate of competency
  • Second Marine Engineer certificate of competency
  • Chief Marine Engineer certificate of competency

And require compliance with the requirements of ministerial decisions no. 24/98 issued by the Minister of Maritime Transport, which regulates and sit for the examinations qualifying studies and marine engineering corresponding to the requirements of the International Convention for the training of the International Maritime Organization of the 1978 STCW and amendments 1995.

First: Mandatory courses should have pass to get the qualification of Masters and Marine Officers:

  • Mandatory Short Courses should successfully completed for Third and Second Mate Certificate of Competency:
    • Advance course in Fire prevention and fire fighting.
    • First aid course.
    • Personal safety and social responsibility.
    • Proficiency in survival crafts.
    • Prevention and combating of marine pollution. 
    • Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques
    • Marine radar and automatic radar plotting and ARPA
    • knowledge  Updating (for those wishing to renew the competency certificate every 5 years)
  • Mandatory Short Courses should successfully completed for Chief Mate and Master Certificate of Competency:
    • Advanced fire prevention and fire fighting.
    • Advanced course in personal survival and search and rescue.
    • Medical studies course.
    • Radar simulator.
    • Advanced communication.
    • In addition to the short mandatory courses for Second Mate
    • Knowledge updating (for those wishing to renew the competency certificate).
    • Ship handling and Maneuvering (in addition to previous courses respect to Master certificate)

Second: Mandatory courses should have pass to get the qualification of Engineers:

    • Mandatory Short Courses should successfully completed for Third Marine Engineer
    • Advanced fire prevention and fire fighting.
    • First aid course.
    • Personal safety and social responsibility.
    • Prevention and combating of marine pollution. 
    • Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques.
    • Knowledge updating (for those wishing to renew the competency certificate).
    • Mandatory Short Courses should successfully completed for Second and Chief Marine Engineer
    • Advanced fire prevention and fire fighting.
    • First aid course.
    • Personal safety and social responsibility.
    • Prevention and combating of marine pollution. 
    • Proficiency in Personal Survival Techniques.
    • Proficiency in survival crafts.
    • Knowledge updating (for those wishing to renew the competency certificate).

For license to work on passenger ships (for all categories) should have to pass the following courses:-

  • Passenger Safety, Cargo Safety and Hull Integrity, Crisis Management and Human Behavior Training including Training for Serving on Board of Ro-Ro Pas
  • Crowd Management, familiarization, Safety Training for Personnel Providing Direct Services to Passengers in Passenger Spaces section A-V/2, paragraph

Mandatory courses Aims to:

  • To provide seafarers in Egypt, other Arabian and African States with safety training in accordance to STCW requirements.
  • Contribute to the training and rehabilitation of the maritime industry employees and maritime industry, oil on board ships, and in the mobile offshore drilling units, and staff on the beach.
  • Achieving the natural and behavioral realism required to accomplish the goals of learning and training.
  • To establish and improve standards of safety and training departments, shipping companies, in addition to the institutions of maritime education and training (MET) in the region.

Due to the contribution of the Academy in achieving the goals of business organizations for the production of goods and services of high quality, the academy found that this is achieved through human resources capable and qualified to keep pace with rapid developments in the field of business, and this is achieved through a regular process and continuous training for creation the capability and skills.
