The general objective of the Business Administration program is to provide students with tools to be professional employees, future managers, and managers. The program exposes the student to information, concepts, theories, applications, research findings, case studies, and models related to business functions and management functions. This exposure develops the student’s analytical, decision making, technical, human, and conceptual skills, thus enabling him/her to professionally manage his/her job, people, organizational units, and the organization as a whole.

Principles of Management

  • Course Prerequisites: none
  • Course Description: The course is an introduction to business and its relation to the society. It introduces students to the basic concepts and principles of business enterprises while considering social and ethical issues. Economic forces affecting businesses, international business, forms of business organizations, franchising and small businesses are among the topics to be covered. It also exposes the students to the management functions of planning, organizing, staffing, leading, motivating, and controlling.

 

Marketing Management                                                        

  • Course Prerequisites: Principles of Management
  • Course Description: The course provides the students with the different tools, and concepts required to take appropriate marketing decisions related the to company''s products, pricing the products, distributing the products, and promoting the products. Taken properly, these decisions will create a valuable exchange between the company and its customers that will satisfy both. Utility, the marketing concept, market classifications, market segmentation, and marketing strategies are among additional topics to be covered.

 

Financial Management                                                           

  • Course Prerequisites: Principles of Management
  • Course Description: The course provides the students with the tools and concepts needed to manage an organization financially. Analysis of financial statements, cash flow and financial planning, time value of money, risk and return, interest rates and bond valuation, stock valuation, feasibility studies techniques, leverage and capital structure, and managing current assets and current liabilities will be covered.

 

Strategic Management

  • Course Prerequisites: Principles & Financial Management
  • Course Description: Organizations are definitely interested in their near future performance. Desired medium and long term performance of an organization can not be attained unless the company is managed strategically, otherwise, although the company might be performing successfully in the short run its long run success is questionable, it might be in trouble or even out of business. Through monitoring, analyzing, and evaluating developments related to competition, customers,  suppliers, economic forces, sociocultural forces, technological forces, legal forces, political forces and other forces, a company aware of its strengths, capabilities, and resources can develop and implement strategies that have long term implications, and thus determine the long term organizational performance . The concepts in the course''s textbook are going to be utilized by students acting as strategic top managers, students are going to analyze, discuss and present comprehensive case studies.

 

Human Resources Management    

  • Course Prerequisites: Principles of Management
  • Course Description: The course describes all the activities that companies (managers) could use to attract, maintain and develop human resources (employees). Job analysis, personnel planning and recruitment, employee testing and appraisal, interviewing applicants, training and developing employees, performance management and appraisal, establishing pay plans, pay for performance and financial incentives, and benefits and services are topics to be covered. Duration per Course: 36 Hours

 

Project Management                                

  • Course Prerequisites: Principles of Management
  • Course Description: The Egyptian pyramids, the Tower of Babel, the Edison’s invention of the light bulb, the development of text book, a new car, or even a new movie film are examples of projects, a one time activity with desired end results. Managing projects is different than managing the traditional company’s operations, as projects are not repetitive like production or sales operations for example. Projects have life cycles starting from the project concept, project ion, project organization, project planning, project budgeting, project scheduling, resource allocation, project monitoring and control, and finally the project termination. The course provides the student with the different concepts and tools to manage and run a project efficiently during its life cycle.
     

Organizational Behavior                                                        

  • Course Prerequisites: Principles of Management
  • Course Description: The course is based on theories, concepts and models that have been developed through systematic and scientific research, making the student understand and manage an individual within an organization, a group within an organization, and the organization as a whole. The most frequent and troublesome problems managers and non managers face is when dealing with people. Values, attitudes, perception, personality, emotions, and individual decision making are among individual (people) factors covered thus helping the student attending the course to be able to analyze, explain, predict and hopefully control colleagues’ and subordinates’ behavior. Topics to be covered that influence group behavior are roles, norms, group cohesiveness, group size, group composition, status, group decision making, understanding work teams, communication, leadership, trust, power, politics, conflict and negotiation.
