Program Description

The current third engineer program is essentially intended to provide trainees with approved in-service training, with a view to meeting the mandatory minimum requirements for knowledge, understanding, and proficiency of the STCW 78 as amended and flag state requirements. The program curricula are particularly meant to satisfy the specific requirements stated in STCW Code. The program is designed to fulfill the level of competence required to operate marine propulsion plants and it also provides opportunities for learners to develop their knowledge, skills, and attitudes in order to improve their effectiveness. Furthermore, participants are expected to acquire on-the-job seagoing experience. Besides, the program is intended to provide trainees with sufficient knowledge and practical expertise regarding keeping a safe engineering watch and operating all main and auxiliary machinery as well as associated control systems. Moreover, it is focused on introducing participants to the necessary safety requirements intrinsic to the working of electrical tasks, electronics as well as automatic control principles. Last but not least, the program prepares trainees to practically apply and comply with the requirements related to pollution prevention and to identify the primary basics and criteria involved and observed in merchant ship construction and naval architecture processes.
