World Maritime Day Celebration at AASTMT

Within the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) role in serving the maritime transport sector, AASTMT as one of the specialized organizations of the League of Arab States organized the celebration of the World Maritime Day (2017), on Thursday 28- 9- 2017, at AASTMT AboKir Campus – Alexandria, in the presence of H.E Dr. Hisham Arafat – Egyptian Minister of Transport, H.E General Mohab Mameish - Chairman of Suez Canal Authority and Head of Suez Canal Economic Zone, H.E General Ahmed Khaled Hassan - Commander of Naval Forces and H.E Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag - AASTMT President in addition to a group of Arab and foreign countries consuls in Alexandria, as well as Heads of the board of directors of various ports and companies specialized in the maritime transport industry.
The World Maritime Day is an official day of the United Nations held annually to focus on the importance of maritime transport and maritime activities, highlighting the significant contribution of IMO and Member States to global efforts to improve shipping safety, security and efficiency and the protection of marine environment, as the World Maritime Day theme for 2017 has been selected as "Connecting Ships, Ports and People", as it has been chosen to provide an opportunity to focus on the many diverse actors involved in the shipping and logistics areas, as the maritime sector, which includes shipping, ports and the people that operate them, can and should play a significant role helping Member States to create conditions for increased employment, prosperity and stability ashore through promoting trade by sea enhancing the port and maritime sector.
