Admission - Master and Officers - Chief Mate

 First Officer Certificate Of Competency:
Duration: 20 Weeks                 No. of Courses: Twice / Year
Candidates applying to sit for first officer certificate of competency examination shall meet the following requirements:


1-The candidate must not be less than 23 years of age.
2-The candidate must successfully pass the medical fitness checkup in accordance with the standards of issuing Seaman’s Book set by the ministerial decree issued for regulating the issuance and renewal of Seaman’s Book. 
3-The candidate must hold Third or Second officer Certificate of Competency.
4-The candidate must meet the requirements of one of the following two streams:

- The First Stream:
The candidate must have served at sea after obtaining Third Officer Certificate of Competency as an officer in charge of navigational watch onboard seagoing ships for a period:
o Not less than 21 months for those candidates who have successfully completed basic maritime studies in an accredited maritime institute, where the duration of study is not less than two academic years, before obtaining Third Officer Certificate of Competency.

Or
b-Not less than 24 months for those candidates who have not completed basic maritime  studies before obtaining Third Officer Certificate of Competency.

- The Second Stream:
•The candidate must have served at sea after obtaining Second Officer Certificate of Competency as an officer in charge of navigational watch onboard seagoing ships for a period not less than 18 months.
•Successful completion of a recognized upgrading session in an accredited maritime institute.
•Successful completion of the short mandatory courses.


• Mandatory courses:
  1- Advanced fire prevention and fire fighting.
  2- Advanced course in personal survival and search and rescue.
  3- Medical studies course.
  4- Radar simulator.
  5- Advanced communication.


- In addition to mandatory courses required for Second Mate.
