Admission - Engineers - Third Engineer
Third Marine Engineer Certificate of Competency:
Duration: 19 Weeks                          No. of Courses: Twice / Year
Candidates applying to sit for third marine engineer certificate of competency examination shall meet the following requirements:
1-The candidate must not be less than 20 years of age.
2-The candidate must successfully pass the medical fitness check up in accordance with the standards of issuing Seaman’s book set by the ministerial decree issued for regulating the issuance and renewal of Seaman’s book.
3-The candidate must be a holder of a general certificate of education, or a certificate of secondary industrial education in a relevant specialization, or an equivalent foreign certificate.
4-The candidate must meet the requirements of one of the following streams:
- The First Stream:
*Successful completion of engineering study program, the duration of which is not less than four academic years, in an accredited maritime institute, provided that study program comprises a guided sea training period of not less than 6 months as an engineering cadet onboard seagoing ships .
*Obtaining B.Sc. in engineering, or its equivalent, in one of the relevant specializations, provided that the candidate completes a sea training period for not less than 6 months onboard seagoing ships after graduation.
- The Second Stream:
*Successful completion of engineering study program, the duration of which is not less than 3years, in an accredited maritime institute , provided that it comprises a guided sea training period for not less than 6 months onboard seagoing ships .
- The Third Stream:
*Serving in relevant technical jobs in the engine- room approved by the major committee for marine engineers for a seagoing service period of not less than 36 months onboard ships, the propulsion power of which is not less than 750 kilowatts.
*Candidates applying for third marine engineer certificate of competency shall submit to the major committee for marine engineers' documentary evidence to the effect that they have successfully completed all the training tasks needs.
*Successful completion of recognized upgrading session in an accredited maritime institute.
*Successful completion of the short mandatory courses in accordance with the provisions of the article of ministerial decrees no (24) for the year 1998 (maritime transport).
• Mandatory Courses:
1- Fire prevention and fire fighting.
2- First aid course.
3- Personal safety and social responsibility.
4- Prevention and combating of marine pollution.
