Opening of "World Modern Pentathlon Championship for Youth" at AASTMT AbuKir Campus
Within the framework of the fruitful cooperation between the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports and its support for athletes, H.E. Prof. Dr. Ashraf Sobhy – Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports inaugurated the "World Modern Pentathlon Championship for Youth" under 17 years, that will be held during the period from 10 - 17 July 2023, at AASTMT AbuKir Campus, Alexandria, with the participation of 35 countries.
The opening ceremony was held on Wednesday 12- 7- 2023, in the presence of H.E. Major General Mohamed Al-Sharif - Governor of Alexandria, H.E. Prof. Dr. H.E. Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag - AASTMT President, H.E. Dr. Fathi Nada - President of the Sports Professions Syndicate, H.E. Mr. Robert Stull - CEO of the Modern Pentathlon in the United States of America, H.E. Eng. Sharif El-Erian, President of the Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Federation and Vice President of the International Federation, H.E. Mr. Saikou Jarju - President of the Modern Pentathlon Federation in Gambia and H.E. Dr. Safaa El Sharif - Undersecretary of the Ministry and Director of the Youth and Sports Directorate in Alexandria.
It is worth noting that the attendees praised the Egyptian Federation of Modern Pentathlon’s achievements at the level of hosting international tournaments, the participation level of Egyptian players in international championships and the excellence of their performance. The President of the Egyptian Federation of Modern Pentathlon confirmed that the specifications of AASTMT’s stadiums conform to the international standards of the new format of the modern pentathlon game. AASTMT hosts the first international official championship in modern pentathlon after applying the new format which will be implemented after 2024 Paris Olympics end.
