The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) will host the 11th meeting of the World Bank’s Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR) Results Management Council (RMC) at AASTMT campus in Alexandria, Egypt on 19 – 20 September 2010 to discuss the Networking of Regional Organizations for the Implementation of Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA)

The Strategic discussions of this meeting will focus on the Networking of Regional Organizations working on Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), as the council will examine the International Network of Regional Organizations development (INRO) with the aim of facilitating the implementation of Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA), where this network will cover a number of regional organizations that have a common goal: contributing in the implementation of HFA in a collaborative manner.

The meeting will also include a discussion on the initiatives of GFDRR capacity development and the presentations of Djibouti and Yemen representatives on their respective DRR experience and their highlighting on the importance of building capacities and disaster preparedness.

The RMC members will also discuss the revised draft of the Results Framework of the GFDRR partnership which has been evolved from the recommendations of the 10th RMC and 8th GFDRR Consultative Group meetings in Kyoto, Japan in May 2010.

It should be noted that GFDRR Results Management Council gathers the leading international experts from the International Strategy for Disaster Reduction (ISDR), the African Union Commission (AUC), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CEDEMA), the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) and the World Bank, as well as representatives from various national academic, research, non-profit and private sector institutions.

GFDRR is a unique long-term global partnership under the ISDR system, established by the World Bank to develop and implement the HFA through a coordinated program for reversing the trend in disaster losses by 2015. As GFDRR complements and reinforces the efforts of ISDR stakeholders in disaster reduction, facilitates ownership by developing countries and increases the effectiveness of donor partner support in disaster reduction. GFDRR is managed by the World Bank on behalf of the participating donor partners and other partnering stakeholders. As to ensure the quality, relevance and impact of its financed activities, GFDRR is supported by a technical committee, the RMC, tasked with the responsibility to evaluate, build capacity and provide advice and technical guidance on the strategy and on the results framework for disaster risk reduction.
