About The Project

Broadband Satellite Communications for Internet Access is a systems engineering methodology for satellite communication networks.


It discusses the implementation of Internet applications that involve network design issues usually addressed in standard organizations. Various protocols for IP- and ATM-based networks are examined and a comparative performance evaluation of different alternatives is described. This methodology can be applied to similar evaluations over any other transport medium.

Activities

Geostationary satellites provide high availability of service, and coverage of almost the entire globe. With satellite communication it is possible to provide communication links from everywhere around Egypt, without any reliance on terrestrial infrastructures, and without relying on local service providers. Thus for news gathering this is an optimal solution.

Proposed Technology

"A complete modem for delivery of IP and Video over a satellite link, based on the DVBS2 standard"

The proposed device will provide GIGE interfaces for user, and transmit and receive interfaces at the standard L-band for the Antenna and RF devices. The modem will support fully the DVBS2 standard, and will enable point to point communication link between two points. The modem will be also an infrastructure for future developments of more complex networks, such as Star and Mesh, non-managed and managed.
