Overview From May 9-11th of 2018, IST hosted the second training within the SEM-SEM project with the colleagues from Egyptian and Jordan universities on the topics of New Models for Energy Education and Innovation Workshop The first day and second days of the workshop was focused on ne active learning methods to engage the participation of students. The third day focused on new innovative business models in the energy field that could be used in classes to set the context to teach the innovative contents developed for the SEM-SEM project. Overall, the workshop was a huge success. The level of discussions was very high, and many important experiences were shared between all the participants. It was evident that the colleagues in Egypt and Jordan are applying the same concepts adjusted to a different cultural context and have been testing many innovative concepts, developed in the frame of other ERASMUS + projects, which benefited also the IST participants. Detailed description Welcome In this session, Professor Carlos Silva hosted the colleagues and shared the current effort of IST to improve the teaching experience to the XXI century students. In particular he described what the new generation, the millennials are expecting form university and how their learning mindset is different. Session I Professor Isabel Gonçalves, the responsible for the Educational Training Department of IST (to support students and faculty) presented a session on how to communicate efficiently with the new generation of students. Session II In this afternoon session, Professor Isabel Gonçalves gave a specific training on how to coach master students in the development of their research thesis. Session III In this session, Professor Ana Moura Santos, the responsible for the MOOCs department of IST presented the MOOCs at IST project, including the development of the platform, the contents and shared some successful numbers of this initiative. Session IV In this section, Professor Alexandra Moutinho shared her experience in promoting active learning strategies, using many tools, and presented the case study of using them in the course of Control Systems. Session V, VI and VII In this session, Professor Carlos Silva presented the strategy do do online courses, followed by two sessions were the colleagues tested the methodology from the design phase to the recording phase. Session VIII In this session, Henrique Pombeiro, co-founder of WATT-IS, presented the importance of the new business trend, Energy Analytics and how the contents of SEM-SEM could be aligned with the current market needs. Session IX In this session, Diogo Henriques, co-founder of Energy of Things, presented the importance of developing IoT devices for energy applications and how the contents of SEM-SEM could be aligned with this market trend. Session X In this session, Professor Diana Neves presented the current context of microgrid development in the world and Europe and discussed with the EGY and JOR colleagues how the SEM-SEM course could address and adapt the concepts to the local context. Session XI In this final session, Carlos Silva presented the concept of Block Chains and its application in Energy Systems. Given the novelty and importance of the topic it was agreed that prof Carlos Silva would prepare an extended version of this seminar and present it at AU, in EGY.
