The Arab Academy for Science and Technology organized a symposium on "Sustainable Ocean Management" under the auspice of the Norwegian Embassy.
The seminar was attended by Ambassador Stein Arne Rosens, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway in Cairo, Prof. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag, President of the Arab Academy for Science and Technology, Dr. Mohi El Sayeh, Dean of the Faculty of Maritime Transport and Technology, Dr. Bir Krister Land, Director of the "Innovators of Norway" Institute of International Transport and Logistics, Dr. Tor Jensen, Vice President of Environmental Risk Management, DNV GL, Dr. Sandra Haddad, Vice Dean for Graduate Studies and Scientific Research, Faculty of International Transport and Logistics, Dr. Iman Ramadan Transport Consultant International Logistics.
The Ambassador delivered a speech and expressed his happiness in attending in the Arab Academy and his participation in this important event.
He said that Sustainable management of the oceans should receive considerable attention from universities, schools, academies, governments and local companies. The IMO, the United Nations and the World Trade Organization have to contribute the conservation, sustainable use of oceans, seas and marine resources for sustainable development.
For his part, Dr. Ismail welcomed the Ambassador, His Excellency the Consul General of Norway and the attendees and thanked them for their honor and hoped that the symposium would produce fruitful and successful results.
He said: "I am proud to cooperate with Norway in a number of projects in the field of maritime transport." I want to thank the Ambassador for his continuous cooperation with the Academy and for the major role in this support.”
He pointed out that Norway is one of the leading countries in the field of maritime transport, adding that the Academy always strives to fulfill its mission and it plays a leading role in cooperation with international and local bodies.
also the Academy is very interested in the issue of sustainable development Over the past years, it has organized many seminars, conferences and workshops with local and international partners to provide innovative solutions to many problems that negatively affect the environment resources.
Dr. Ismail added that the Academy is a pioneer in the field of marine education in the Middle East and we participate actually in the Executive Council of International Maritime Universities.
For her part, Dr. Sarah Zarqa dean of the institute of the international transport and logistics welcomed the audience and thanked the Norwegian Embassy for the event. She said that the oceans are facing a great danger and the culture of ocean care should be promoted between generations. There is no life without clean and healthy oceans and it must be preserved as a major source of oxygen.
