The major role played by Egypt in establishing The Mediterranean MOU for Port State Control in the same time city of Alexandria holding its secretary in which the first meeting was held in February 1998, Egypt carried out the Port State Control inspections as required by the MOU. As a result, the statement reveals the achievements of Egypt in relation to the target of a number of foreign ships to be inspected during the years 2002-2010, according to the requirements of the Mediterranean Memorandum of Understanding, and found that the rate of inspection up to 53% (more than required by the MOU 15%), a positive sign indicates that port state officers of the Egyptian Authority for Maritime Safety are doing their job efficiently with regard to foreign ships visiting ports, with the objective of prevent loss of lives, property and preserve marine environment.
