Logistics is essentially a planning orientation and framework that seeks to create a single plan for the flow of product and information through a business. According to the modern port concepts, logistics centers are one of the main and essential activities that must be emphasized and developed to facilitate the flow of products. The comparative efficiency of a country’s trade logistics chain is of vital importance in enhancing competitiveness of its industry and commerce
Logistics centers (Distribution Park) must be connected directly to container terminals, multimodal transport facilities and highly skilled workforce. This research aims at highlighting the important role of ports in terms of emphasizing logistics centers activities. New port functions, compassing logistics centers and free trade zones have been having a profound effect on the port industry, as major ports rush to utilize these new logistics systems where free trade zones are generally defined as secured areas adjacent to ports in which goods can be stored for prolonged periods without customs duties, excise tax inventory tax being paid on the goods.
The research method used is that of Analytical Screening of the literature published on the role of free trade zones in strengthening logistics centers in modern ports. The aim is to highlight how free trade zones can improve logistics centers, especially at modern ports, although most FTZs in the world have more less the same objectives.
