THE ROLE OF ELECTRONIC DATA INTERCHANGE IN CONTAINER TERMINAL OPERATIONS : A CASE STUDY ALEXANDRIA INTERNATIONAL CONTAINER TERMINAL
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY NOW A DAY BECOMES VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE IN THE MARITIME INDUSTRY. ELECTRONIC DATA INTERCHANGE (EDI) IS THE ELECTRONIC MOVEMENT OF DATA BETWEEN WITHIN ORGANIZATIONS IN A STRUCTURED, COMPUTERIZED - RETRIEVABLE DATA FORMAT THAT PERMITS INFORMATION TO BE TRANSFERRED FROM A COMPUTER PROGRAM IN ONE LOCATION TO A COMPUTER PROGRAM IN ANOTHER LOCATION WITHOUT RE-KEYING. ELECTRONIC DATA INTERCHANGE BECOME AS A BACKBONE OF ANY CONTAINER TERMINAL OPERATION IN BECAUSE DUE TO ITS USAGE THE FLOW OF THE WHOLE SUCH OPERATION WILL BE FACILITATED IN EACH STAGE and THAT GUARANTEED IN THIS RESEARCH BY A CASE STUDY OF ALEXANDRIA INTERNATIONAL CONTAINER TERMINAL.
