I am a Lecturer in the Construction and Building Engineering Department at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Cairo, Egypt, My interdisciplinary background bridges civil engineering, environmental engineering, and sustainable biotechnology. Academic Background & Career I earned my B.Sc. in Civil Engineering from AASTMT in 2010 (ranking second in my class with a GPA of 3.88) and joined the faculty as a Graduate Teaching Assistant the same year. I completed my M.Sc. in Civil Engineering at AASTMT in 2015, focusing on the seismic retrofitting of rectangular columns using Fiber Reinforced Polymers (FRP). I subsequently earned my Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from Ain Shams University in 2020, where my research pivoted toward biological desalination and renewable energy generation using algal systems. Then spent time as a visiting researcher and a postdoc in university of sheffield where i helped bridge the gap between Engineering and biology in projects concerning environmnetal engingineering. Throughout my academic tenure, I have taught undergraduate courses across structural mechanics, concrete design, construction materials, environmental engineering, solid waste management, and renewable energy systems. Research Focus & Key Publications My research expertise spans phototrophic microorganisms, microalgae biomanufacturing, carbon capture, bio-photovoltaics, and sustainable biomaterials: * Biopolymers & Sustainable Composites: * High-Performance and Cost-Effective Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate)/Microalgae Biocomposites: Investigated chemical and mechanical surface modifications of microalgae biomass to enhance interfacial compatibility with PHB, improving composite toughness and elongation. (*ACS Sustainable Chemistry & Engineering*, 2026) * Large-Scale Cultivation of Synechocystis sp. PCC6803: Demonstrated large-scale cyanobacteria cultivation for Poly(3-hydroxybutyrate) (PHB) production targeted toward medical and bulk manufacturing applications. (*New Biotechnology*, 2024) * Biological Carbon Capture & Bio-Photovoltaics: * Capturing Microalgae Within Aerosols Provides Carbon Capture Bio-Functionality: Examined aerosolized microalgae encapsulation techniques to deliver functional biological carbon capture. (*Journal of CO2 Utilization*, 2025) * Biological Desalination & Power Generation: Developed chamber-less bio-photovoltaic (BPV) systems using *Chlorella vulgaris* to generate electrical current concurrently with saline water desalination. (*IJEAT / WJERT*, 2019) * Structural Engineering & Infrastructure: * Seismic Retrofit of Rectangular Columns Using Fiber Reinforced Polymers: Analyzed structural column confinement and rehabilitation techniques using FRP composites. (*ICIMART*, 2016)
