This course is an introduction to the 19th century novel. Elements of the novel (setting, plot, story, characterization, etc.) will receive ample treatment and examination, and so will the cultural and historical background of the Victorian Novel. Through an in-depth study of three novels, students will be acquainted with the various styles and trends within this rich genre.
