This course introduces the basic concepts of translation. It also introduces text types and relevant techniques of translation. It aims at training the students to translate a variety of text types, such as political speech, marketing campaigns, op-ed articles, brochures, leaflets, and printed advertisements from Arabic into English and vice versa. The course emphasizes a problem-solving approach, supported by text analysis (both in the pre-translation phase and in subsequent editing and evaluation).
