Essay Writing

Description

The course aims at developing student’s academic writing skills through a process oriented practice. To explain, the course guides students through the sub-processes of the pre-writing stage, the while-writing stage and the postwriting stage with the ultimate aim of writing academic essays, summaries and reflections to meet their communicative academic needs. The course also orients students with the techniques of effective paraphrasing and source documentation to avoid plagiarism when citing outside resources. Additionally, the course touches upon the affordances of AI for academic writing purposes

  1.1 apply the pre-writing, drafting, editing and proof-reading techniques required for academic writing
  1.2 identify the topic sentence, supporting details and concluding sentence of academic paragraphs
  1.3 summarize, quote and paraphrase outside resources to support an argument
  1.4 write different types of essays employing different techniques for introductions and conclusions
  1.5 implement unity and coherence techniques in originally produced paragraphs and essays.
  1.6 employ different organizational patterns to write different types of expository essays.
  2.1 brainstorm ideas related to a specific topic
  2.2 apply critical thinking and analytical thinking skills to identify the main constitutes of paragraphs and essays
  2.3 evaluate paragraphs, essays, summaries and paraphrases
  2.4 analyze different patterns of essay organization
