This advanced course focuses on the pivotal role of clinical nutrition in the integrated care of cancer patients. The course covers the complex metabolic and physiological changes caused by the tumor and its various treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Students will gain a deep understanding of how to assess the nutritional status of oncology patients and manage treatment-related side effects that affect nutrition, such as loss of appetite, nausea, mucositis, and cancer cachexia syndrome. They will also learn how to develop specialized nutritional intervention plans, including the use of oral nutritional supplements, enteral, and parenteral nutrition, with the aim of maintaining the patient's physical strength, improving their tolerance to treatment, and enhancing their quality of life.
