The Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport (AASTMT), in partnership with the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, launched the “Green Egypt” initiative at AASTMT’s campus in New Alamein City, Matrouh. This initiative, spearheaded by the National Youth Union, aims to plant one million trees across Egypt’s governorates, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to environmental sustainability and climate resilience ahead of the COP27 conference in Sharm El Sheikh.
The launch event was attended by esteemed guests, including Dr. Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, and Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar, President of AASTMT. The initiative aligns with Egypt’s ongoing efforts to reduce CO2 emissions, enhance green spaces, and promote awareness of the impacts of climate change. Through the “Green Egypt” initiative, AASTMT strengthens its dedication to SDG 13 by supporting reforestation, which is essential for carbon capture and the mitigation of climate change effects.
By fostering community engagement in environmental protection, AASTMT plays a pivotal role in Egypt’s green transition, empowering youth to take active roles in sustainable development and contributing to a climate-conscious society. The academy’s support for this large-scale tree-planting effort reflects its commitment to creating a sustainable future for Egypt and the Mediterranean region.
