Description/Outcomes This course covers the different approved methods of naming drug molecules. The process of drug discovery and development is high lightened. It comprises an introduction to the physiochemical properties of drugs relative to their biological effects. The students are exposed to the concepts of structure-activity relationships and drug-receptor interactions. Highlights and a quick review of modern screening and modeling operations are also explained. The student is exposed to the concept of bio-isosterism and its application in designing new drugs. The course also covers drugs used in hepatic disorders including viral hepatitis, pancreatitis, gastrointestinal bleeding, peptic ulcer, gastro-esophageal reflux disease, inflammatory bowel diseases and irritable bowel syndrome as well as gastrointestinal symptoms including nausea, vomiting, constipation, and diarrhea.
