Activities of the Arab Day for Disaster Risk Reduction in 2024

Today, Thursday, March 28, 2024, His Excellency Professor Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, opened the activities of the celebration of the Arab Day for Disaster Risk Reduction for the year 2024, which was organized by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport and the Housing and Water Resources and Disaster Reduction Administration of the League of Arab States.The Arab workshop included two main working sessions
The second session was titled “Crisis and Disaster Management in Arab Countries - Challenges and Contemporary Issues,” and was moderated by Dr. Raban Mohi El-din Al-Sayeh, Dean of the College of Maritime Transport and Technology at the Academy.
Among the most important topics I discussed was the role of nuclear technologies in reducing the effects of climate change, electronic risks, and how to reduce disasters, threats to communications networks, and electronic piracy in the Arab region.
The expected climate changes and gas emission scenarios and their impact on water resources in the Arab countries, the challenges of sea level rise and its repercussions on the risks of natural disasters in the Arab region, the challenges of the agricultural sector in facing crises and natural disasters in the Arab region, and ways to manage crises and disasters in the maritime field in countries.
