Computer Engineering

Program Educational Objectives

  • Develop into a technically competent engineer with the necessary technical knowledge, both in-breadth and in-depth, prepared for a successful career in the industry, research organization/academia, and entrepreneurship.
  • Excel in the practice of engineering through effective communication, teamwork, leadership, and creative engineering problem solving
  • Make professional and socially responsible decisions that account for the local/global influence and related legal and ethical issues of the technology
  • Embrace the continuous learning necessary  to practice engineering over their entire professional lifetimes

The Student Outcomes Performance Indicators

The program must prepare graduates to attain the ability to:

  • Identify, formulate, and solve complex engineering problems by applying principles of engineering, science, and mathematics.
    • Applies principles of engineering, science, and mathematics to solve complex engineering problems.
    • Selects appropriate principles of engineering, science, and mathematics to identify and formulate engineering problems.
  • Apply engineering design to produce solutions that meet specified needs with consideration of public health, safety, and welfare, as well as global, cultural, social, environmental, and  economic factors.
    • Identifies constraints on the design problem and establishes criteria for acceptability and desirability of solutions.
    • Evaluate and analyze the impact of the design on public health, safety, and welfare, global, cultural, social, environmental, and economic factors.
  • Communicate effectively with a range  of audiences.
    • Presentation skills and grammar are appropriate.
    • Body language and clarity of speech  enhances communication.
  • Recognize ethical and professional responsibilities in engineering situations and make  informed judgments, which must consider the impact of engineering solutions in global, economic, environmental, and societal contexts.
    • Knows code of ethics, design standards and code of practice for the discipline.
    • Identify and make an informed judgment on the impact of the environmental, economic, social, and global issues and incorporate that sensitivity into the engineering situations.
  • Function effectively on a team whose members together provide leadership, create a collaborative and inclusive environment, establish goals, plan tasks, and meet objectives.
    • Integrates input from all team members, improves communication among teammates and makes decisions in relation to objective criteria.
    • Demonstrates the ability to monitor team progress and make suggestions when needed to assure team success.
  • Develop and conduct appropriate experimentation, analyze and interpret data, and use engineering judgment to draw conclusions.
    • Determines data that are appropriate to collect and selects appropriate equipment, protocols, etc. for measuring the appropriate variables to get required data.
    • Uses appropriate tools to analyze data, verify, and validate experimental results including the use of statistics to account for experimental error.
  • Acquire and apply new knowledge as needed, using appropriate learning strategies.
    • Able to study a new topic without guidance.
    • Able to find information relevant to problem solution without guidance.
