“Session 25” of “Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control in the Mediterranean Region” Meeting

The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) participated in the meeting of “Session 25” of the Memorandum of Understanding on Port State Control in the Mediterranean Region “Med MoU” that was held in the presence of H.E. Captain Panayiotis Varnavides - Chairman of the Med MoU, H.E. Rear Admiral Mokhtar Ammar - Secretary General of the Chairman of the Med MoU, H.E. Rear Admiral Hussein Al-Jaziri - President of the Egyptian Authority for Maritime Safety, H.E. Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag - AASTMT President, H.E. Rear Admiral Rear Admiral Tarek Abdullah - Representative of the Head of the Egyptian Maritime Transport Sector, H.E. Rear Admiral Mohamed Ismail - Representative of the Commander of the Naval Forces, H.E. Rear Admiral Nihad Shaheen - Chairman of the Board of the Alexandria Port Authority, H.E. Rear Admiral Ahmed Hawash - Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Damietta Port Authority, H.E. Rear Admiral Mohamed Abdel Rahim - Chairman of the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Red Sea Ports, in addition to a group of public figures in the Egyptian and international maritime community.

It is worth to mention that the “Med MoU” is an agreement to enhance cooperation and coordination between the tourism countries in the Mediterranean in the field of approaching and managing the maritime and port activities for the purpose of enhancing maritime security, protecting the marine environment, and enhancing the regional cooperation among the member states. The General Secretariat of “Med MoU” is hosted by Egypt, and it’s responsible for unifying the technical standards for port state control that inspect the foreign ships in the Egyptian ports to ensure their compliance with international agreements issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).
