Memorandum of Understanding between DP World Sokhna and the Arab Academy for Maritime Transport
DP World Sokhna, the main trade gateway in Egypt, and the operator of the Ain Sokhna port of the Suez Canal Economic Zone, signed this morning a Memorandum of Understanding with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, in the fields of training and exchange of experiences, which is a new step in the way of preparing graduates according to the requirements of The labor market, in line with the latest global standards.
The MoU aims to enhance cooperation between the academic sector and the business sector of mutual interest in accordance with the needs and objectives of education and the requirements of the labor market.
The memorandum of understanding was signed by Mr. Gerrard van den Heuvel, CEO of Dubai International Sokhna, Director General of Dubai International Ports, Egypt, and Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag, President of the Arab Academy, in the presence of Prof. Dr. Khaled Al-Saqati - Dean of the College of International Transport And logistics, Dr. Yasmine Rashid - Head of Energy and Petroleum Logistics Department, Dr. Heba Ismail - Head of Transportation Logistics Department, Mr. Taha Youssef - Director of Human Resources at DP World Sokhna, and a group of leaders of DP World Sokhna and the Arab Academy.
Through the Memorandum of Understanding, DP World Sokhna will provide opportunities to enhance and develop the academic students ’skills to increase their influence and value in the labor market and society, through summer training programs for undergraduate students, and recent training programs from departments related to the logistics industry, such as the GROW program, which is the company`s initiative to develop Youth in the communities in which it operates and is part of the corporate social responsibility.
The Academy will contribute to supporting development areas for DP World Sokhna employees to match work needs and provide professional education by the Academy. The Arab Academy and DP World Sokhna will jointly supervise student graduation projects, including multiple majors across different colleges, and the two teams will cooperate in preparing Publication of studies, design and development of a competition for studies that support innovation and startups related to the maritime supply chain.
For his part, Mr. Gerard van den Heuvel - CEO of "DP World - Sokhna" and Director General of "Dubai Ports World Egypt" - expressed his happiness at signing the Memorandum of Understanding with the Arab Academy and said: "We consider the development of education as one of our most important priorities for development. Our internal plans to prepare new generations, so I am happy to sign the Memorandum of Understanding with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport, the largest academy specialized in the field of maritime transport and logistics in the Middle East and Africa region, to work together to accelerate the growth of young local graduates with high potential through training Development and work experience, and linking them to the labor market in the most modern ports around the world.
The Memorandum of Understanding will also allow us to exchange best practices and experiences with the Arab Academy, and it will also allow us to host students during the summer training program for Dubai International Ports Sokhna and other logistical sites, sponsor graduation projects related to the port industry and promising talents to join the GROW program in Dubai Ports Global, which is our commitment to contribute to the development of youth in the societies in which we operate.
On the same level, Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport said: “Proud to cooperate with DP World Sokhna, a leading global company that includes outstanding expertise in the maritime transport and logistics industry, and is a real addition that the Academy provides to its students to train them.
