On-site training facilities

Simulation activities in the College of Pharmacy AASTMT fall under 4 categories: high-fidelity simulations (using the Virtual Patient Simulator), medium-fidelity simulations (using Training Manikins), low-fidelity simulations (using 3D life-size Anatomy Models) as well as full environment simulation, taking place in the Educational Training Pharmacy & the Drug Manufacturing lab.

The Virtual Patient Simulator (Body InteractTM) is a state-of-the-art technology that is based on  virtual interactive patients supported by realistic physiological algorithms; Body Interact™ mimics the visual-spatial and real-time characteristics of the patient's health condition, provides realistic feedback, and is able to compile and assess trainees' performance. Body Interact™’s validated scenarios challenge the trainee’s clinical and critical thinking skills, providing the best possible preparation for providing care without any risk to real patients. It offers reviewed scenarios that rely on clinical evidence and well-established guidelines; these are designed and regularly updated to address basic, intermediate and advanced clinical skills goals. Body Interact™ works with and obtains validation from leading medical educators and global. institutions such as the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association and the European Society of Cardiology.

Medium- and low-fidelity simulation activities are performed using life like training manikins, namely the adult blood pressure training arm, the airway management trainer (that realistically simulates an adult airway, and can be used to demonstrate intubation, ventilation & suction techniques), the cardiopulmonary resuscitation training manikin (for training on compression force to see and hear that compressions are done correctly) and the injection model of the buttock (to observe the proper intramuscular injection technique).

In the main campus, the Training Educational Pharmacy & Drug Manufacturing Lab represent a full-environment simulation that mimics the real practice site in community pharmacies and Drug Manufacturing Companies, respectively.

Training:

In addition to 100-hours experiential training during summer period, the PharmD & PharmD (Clinical Pharmacy) programs encompass an Advanced Field Training (Internship Training Program) held after the 5th year in workplaces. It includes 6 rotational training rounds in different practice sites. The duration of each round is 6 weeks with a total of 36 weeks (academic year). The program fulfils an applicable training on the actual practice of the profession in various pharmaceutical working sites such as pharmaceutical factories and companies, hospitals (public and private), pharmacies (public and private), pharmaceutical and medical research centers, laboratories and units, bioavailability and clinical studies (CROs), drug sales and marketing. The training program (internship year) is one of the requirements for obtaining the first university degree (Bachelor of Pharmacy – PharmD). The Internship Training Program is a degree-offering requirement, where the Bachelor degree will not be granted, and the student will not be considered eligible to practice the profession unless successfully passing the Internship Training Program. For each rotational training round, the proper practice site is defined, owing to official collaborations with regulatory and professional bodies
