NamibiaEgypt and Namibia
• Egypt had a prominent role in supporting the liberation movement of Namibia (SWAPO).
Mutual Visits:
• From 31 October to 2 November 2010, visit of Namibian Minister of Foreign Affairs Utoni Nujoma to Cairo.
He met with Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Industry, Agriculture and Land Reclamation, and Education.
• In November 2009, visit by a Namibian delegation headed by Foreign Minister to Egypt to participate in the Chinese African forum in Sharm El-Sheikh.
• From 27 to 29 October 2009, visit by a Namibian delegation headed by Minister of Trade and Industry to Egypt to participate in the African Ministers of Trade conference in Cairo.
• From 12 to 19 October 2009, visit of an Egyptian delegation to Namibia to participate in the ninth meeting of Heads of National Drug and Law Enforcement Agencies.
• In June 2009, visit by a Namibian delegation headed by the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs to Egypt to participate in the Non-Aligned Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh.
• In April 2009, visit by Assistant Minister for African Affairs and African Union Affairs, and Deputy Assistant to the affairs of the East and Southern Africa to Namibia to head the Egyptian delegation in the Joint Commission held in Namibia.
Two agreements in the fields of education and mining were signed during the meetings.
• On 2-3 March, 2009, visit of a delegation headed by Secretary of the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa to Namibia.
• In December 2008, visit by the Speaker of the Namibian Parliament in his capacity as Chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Union – to Egypt in the fact-finding mission to the Gaza events.
• In October 2008, visit by a Namibian delegation headed by Minister of Health to Egypt to discuss ways to develop and strengthen relations of cooperation in the field of health between the two countries.
• In 2008, visit by a Namibian delegation headed by the President and the Foreign Minister to Egypt to participate at the AU Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, former President Mubarak met with the Namibian President on the sidelines of the meetings.
• In February 2008, visit by a Namibian delegation headed by the Minister of Education to Egypt to discuss ways to boost bilateral cooperation in the education sector, and benefit from Egyptian expertise in the field of teaching and university teaching.Contractual Framework:
• Agreement for the Establishment of a joint committee between the two countries in 20/05/1990, during the visit of Foreign Minister of Namibia to Cairo, the first agreement Namibia signed with another country.
• Agreement on cultural, scientific and technical cooperation in January 1993.
• Cooperation Agreement between the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa and the University of Namibia in January 1993.
• Technical cooperation agreement between the Egyptian Fund and the Government of Namibia signed in August 1990, renewal of the agreement in October 2005 extending the agreement to 2011.
• Memorandum of Understanding on agricultural cooperation signed in June 1999 during the visit of the Namibian Minister of Agriculture to Egypt.
• Agreement on Cooperation in the field of transport and air services during the visit of an Egyptian delegation from the Civil Aviation Authority and EgyptAir to Namibia in April 7, 2000.
• Agreement to update the technical cooperation agreement between Egypt and Namibia in October 2005.
• Memorandum of Understanding on political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of both countries in November 2006.
• Agreement for cooperation in the field of education signed during the fourth session of the joint committee in April 2009.
• Cooperation agreement in mining signed during the fourth session of the joint committee in April 2009.
