• Relations between both countries were established in 1969.
Egypt opened its embassy at the level of Chargé d'Affaires, then upgraded to a representation at ambassadors’ level in 1973.
Niger appointed an ambassador to Cairo in 1976.Main signed agreements:
• Technical Cooperation Agreement between the Egyptian Fund for Technical Cooperation with Africa and the Government of the Niger in Niamey.
• Cooperation Agreement between Al Azhar Al Sharif and the Government of Niger.
• Cooperation Protocol in the field of higher education in Cairo.
• Memorandum of Understanding on cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs and a memorandum of understanding in the field of tourism.
• Cooperation Protocol between the Universities of Cairo and Niamey, which includes assistance to establish an Arabic language department at the University of Niamey and a specialized Egyptology department at the Research Institute of Human Sciences at the University of Niamey.
