• Diplomatic ties between both countries were established in 1994. Mutual Visits :
• On 4/12/2015, Prime Minister arrived to the South African capital Johannesburg where he takes part in the China-Africa Forum.
• On 13/6/2015, Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab met with South African President Jacob Zuma on sidelines of AU Summit.
• On 2/4/2015, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with South African President Jacob Zuma to invite Sisi to take part in the African Union summit to be hosted by his country this year.
• On 12/10/2014, Foreign Minister has conferred with visiting South African Foreign Minister Maite Nkoana-Mashabane on means to boost bilateral ties in the different domains as well as the situation in Africa and the Middle East.
• On 24/2/2014, former President Adly Mansour received a message from his South African counterpart Jacob Zuma.
The message was delivered by Zuma's personal envoy and State Security Minister Siyabonga Cwele to reiterate South Africa's support for Egypt during the transitional period and its war against terrorism.
• On 27/3/2013, former President paid a visit to South Africa.
He participated in the meeting of NEPAD countries and BRICS forum in Durban.
• On October 18th - 20th, 2010, President of South Africa Jacob Zuma visited Egypt.
• In June 2010, South African Minister of Energy visited Egypt.
• In June 2010, the South African Minister of Sciences and Technology visited Egypt.
Contractual Framework:
• cooperation agreement between the Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Chamber of Commerce of Alexandria agreement (1994).
• protocol of cooperation between the Academy of Scientific Research and Technology, Arab Republic of Egypt and the Human Sciences Research Council of South Africa (21/11/1994).
• an agreement of joint committee was signed between the two countries on , (03/29/1995).
• Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation in the field of energy and electricity (11/05/1995) the Ministry of Electricity and Energy Research affairs and international treaties has reported that it was a joint statement between the two sides.
• Memorandum of Understanding between the Council of Earth Sciences in South Africa and the Egyptian General Authority of geological Survey and mining projects on scientific and technical cooperation in the field of Earth Sciences (11/06/1995).
• Cooperation agreement in the field of tourism (26/08/1997).
• cooperation agreement in the field of science and technology (08/26/1997).
• Conduct Airlines agreement (26/08/1997) Egypt has ratified it, while South Africa had not ratified it yet.
• Cooperation agreement in the field of arts and culture (26/08/1997).
• Avoidance of double taxation agreement (08.26.1997) - entered into force on 16.12.1998.
• Memorandum of Understanding between IDSC in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Regional Centre for information technology and computer engineering programs and the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research in South Africa (08/26/1997)
• Cooperation agreement between the Faculty of Medicine, Cairo University Faculty of Medicine, University of Pretoria in the field of research and education and training programs (03/12/1997).
• Trade agreement signed in 28/10/1998 - has not yet been ratified by both sides.
• Cooperation agreement in the field of merchant shipping in the site 10/28/1998 - met South Africa's ratification procedures while Egypt has not ratified yet.
• Investment promotion and protection agreement signed on 28/10/1998 - met Egypt's ratification but did not satisfy South Africa's ratification procedures.
(Expressed South African side expressed its intention not to ratify the encouragement and protection of investment agreement with Egypt and that the process of developing a new language for all its agreements with countries of the world for the exchange of investment protection).
• A memorandum of cooperation in the cultural, scientific and educational fields between Cairo University and the University of Pretoria signed on (20/07/2000).
•cooperation agreement between the Institute of African Studies in the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Africa Institute of South Africa (20/07/2000).
• Memorandum of Understanding between the Cairo and Alexandria Stock Exchange and Johannesburg (07/20/2000).
• Cooperation agreement between the Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce and the South African Chamber of Business (SACOB) signed on 20/07/2000.
• Memorandum of Understanding between the Cairo Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Johannesburg (JMCCI) position in the 20/07/2000.
• Cooperation agreement in the Police field signed on 07/20/2000, Egypt ratified it but South Africa not .
• Cooperation agreement in the field of animal health and veterinary public health signed on 20/07/2000, ratified by Egypt not ratified by South African side.
• Mutual judicial assistance agreement on criminal matters signed on 22/10/2001.
• Agreement in exchange extradition position in the 22/10/ 2001.
•Agreement to establish a joint council of businessmen between the two countries agreement was signed 22/10/2001.

• Memorandum of Understanding for cooperation between the Union of Egyptian Radio and Television and the South African Broadcasting Corporation (July 15, 2003).

• Memorandum of Understanding between Port Said University and the University of UNISA (the Institute of Social and Health Sciences) to establish the South African / Egyptian initiative of security and promoting peace SAESPPI signed in 25/09/2012.
• Memorandum of Understanding between the Suez Canal University (Faculty of Medicine) and UNISA University (Institute of Social and Health Sciences) and the Medical Research Council of South Africa to create the initiative, the South African / Egyptian Security and Development SAESDI occurred in the 09/23/2012.
