MPI / AASTMT Role

Project member / international technical partner supporting climate-change downscaling and geographical mapping work packages

Partners

Northern Border University, KSA; Missouri University of Science and Technology, USA; Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport, Egypt

Research Field

Environment; climate change; sustainable development; climate-change mitigation and adaptation; vulnerable infrastructure systems; infrastructure adaptation policies

Objectives

To provide decision-makers in KSA with tools for climate-change mitigation and adaptation; identify infrastructure systems vulnerable to climate-change effects; propose rehabilitation and retrofitting policies; downscale atmospheric components over KSA; map climate-change effects; and develop mitigation, preparedness, and adaptation policies for infrastructure systems

Main Activities

Downscaling atmospheric components; geographical mapping of climate-change effects including rain, floods, wind gusts, and dust storms; identifying vulnerable infrastructure systems; developing mitigation, preparedness, rehabilitation, and adaptation policies

Outputs

Spatial climatological database for KSA; downscaled climate projections; geographical maps of climate-change effects; identification of vulnerable infrastructure systems; adaptation and mitigation policy recommendations; reports for policymakers; two ISI-indexed journal publications

Contribution to MPI

Strengthening AASTMT/MPI regional role in climate-change modeling, RegCM-based downscaling, climate-risk mapping, infrastructure adaptation research, technical capacity building, and regional collaboration with KSA and USA partners
