In 2013, River Transport Research Unit has been established within MRCC aiming at promoting the river transport in Egypt and to increase its contribution in the inland cargo transport and passengers transfer.

In December 2013, a Protocol for technical collaboration has been signed between the General Authority For River Transport and AAST represented by MRCC.
