World Modern Pentathlon Championship 2022

Report on the World Modern Pentathlon Championship for Adults

 Which started on Sunday, July 24, 2022

 Under the patronage of His Excellency Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar Ismail Farag, President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport. The events of the World Modern Pentathlon Championship and the press conference of the championship were held in the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport in Alexandria from July 24 to 31, 2022.

The Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Federation:

  • The Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Federation, headed by Engineer Sherif El-Erian, confirmed the number of countries that have confirmed their participation in the World Championship for adults, which will be held at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport in Alexandria from July 24 to 31.
  • The Executive Bureau of the International Modern Pentathlon Federation unanimously decided in March to assign the organization of the World Championship for adults to Egypt instead of China, which apologized due to the repercussions of the coronavirus.
  • 43 countries have confirmed their participation in the championship as follows.

 

The Minister of Sports expresses gratitude to the Arab Academy for hosting the Modern Pentathlon World Championship

  • The conference was attended by Dr. Klaus Schorman,  President of the International Modern Pentathlon Federation,  Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar,  President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport in Alexandria, Engineer Sherif Al-Aryan, President of the Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Federation and Deputy President of the International Federation, Mr. Martin Dow,  Marketing Manager at the International Federation,  Awad Sami, a member of the board of the Modern Pentathlon Federation and a member of the coaching committee of the International Federation, Yasser Hefny, Chairman of the Players Committee of the International Federation, and Dr. Safaa El-Shareef, Director of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in Alexandria.
  • Dr. Ashraf Sobhy, Minister of Youth and Sports, expresses his thanks and appreciation to all those involved in organizing the Modern Pentathlon World Championship at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, under the leadership of Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, and Governor of Alexandria, Major General Mohamed El-Sherif, for their efforts to ensure the success of the championship. He also extends his thanks to Dr. Klaus Schorman, President of the International Modern Pentathlon Federation, Engineer Sherif Al-Aryan, President of the International Federation, and Dr. Hassan Mustafa, President of the International Handball Federation. In addition, he thanks the international sports system under the leadership of Thomas Bach and the Egyptian Olympic Committee under the leadership of Engineer Hesham Hatab, as well as all participants in the international event in Alexandria, the bride of the Mediterranean.
  • The Minister of Youth and Sports has affirmed that the international championships hosted by Egypt in various sports have been successful in their organization. This has given great confidence to various international federations in assigning tournament organization files to the Egyptian state, thanks to the political leadership's support for sports and athletes. Sahar praised the role of the Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Federation in preparing athletes and implementing their training plans in preparation for upcoming tournaments, in order to continue the achievements of modern pentathlon champions in various competitions, including the recent Olympic silver medal in Tokyo. He praised the performance of the modern pentathlon national team players, which confirms the development of the sport in Egypt. He also emphasized providing all support to the federation and players to continue achievements and make history by adding new victories to Egypt's sporting record.
  • El-Arian stated: "I extend my thanks to the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport for hosting the championship, and I would like to thank Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghaffar, the president of the academy, for his constant cooperation with the pentathlon federation locally and internationally." El-Arian confirmed that the academy is a source of pride for Alexandria, and its stadiums are fully compatible with the new rules of modern pentathlon. El-Arian also praised the role of the Ministry of Youth and Sports in supporting sports federations to organize major international and global tournaments.
  • Dr. Ismail Abdelghaffar expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the Minister of Youth and Sports, Dr. Ashraf Sobhi, for his efforts in elevating Egyptian sports and his cooperation with the federations in hosting major tournaments. Dr. Ismail Abdelghaffar affirmed that the political leadership stands behind Egyptian sports, just like all other sectors, to place Egypt in the position it deserves. He welcomed all attendees, including Klaus Schormann, the President of the International Modern Pentathlon Union, and Sherif El-Arian, the President of the Egyptian Union of the Game, expressing his pride in the Egyptian national team and their impressive results. The President of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport also thanked all the employees of the academy who participated in organizing the championship for their great efforts, calling for the media to highlight Egypt's capabilities and the academy's ability to host tournaments based on the reality they see before them.
  • Klaus Schormann, the President of the International Modern Pentathlon Union, expressed his gratitude to the Egyptian Union of Modern Pentathlon, headed by Eng. Sherif El-Arian, as well as the Egyptian Olympic Committee, the Egyptian government, and the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport in Alexandria for hosting the World Championship. He said, "Last year, we held the World Youth and Junior Championships in the historical and beautiful city of Alexandria, and it was very successful. This year, the top athletes will enjoy the same opportunity." Schormann added, "As we approach the end of the exciting 2022 season, I would like to welcome all athletes and their delegations to the World Championship in Alexandria." The President of the International Modern Pentathlon Union further stated, "This is the first time that the World Championship is being held under the new system of the game, which was developed for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games."
  • The conference discussed the details related to the championship, its system, and everything related to the participants. The Egyptian and International Modern Pentathlon Unions, along with the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, were honored by presenting them with the championship flag on the occasion of its 50th anniversary.

Results of the UIPM Modern Pentathlon World Championships 2022:

  • Egypt wins the gold medal in the women's relay event at the Modern Pentathlon World Championships.
  •  Egypt earns silver in the men's relay event at the Modern Pentathlon World Championships.
  • Egypt earns silver in the men's individual event at the Modern Pentathlon World Championships.

  • The Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Union, led by Eng. Sherif El-Arian and the Board of Directors, would like to extend their sincere thanks and appreciation to the Arab Academy for Science, Technology, and Maritime Transport, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag, for hosting the World Championship for Adults in Modern Pentathlon, which took place at the academy's facilities in Abi Qir, Alexandria, from July 23rd to 31st of last year.
  • We would also like to express our gratitude to all the leadership of the academy for their efforts before, during, and after the championship.
  • As we extend our thanks to Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag for his constant and unlimited support to Egyptian sports in general, and to the Egyptian Modern Pentathlon Union in particular, for providing the necessary infrastructure, stadiums, and accommodation for the participating delegations within the academy's premises, which facilitated our time and effort in moving between accommodation and tournament venues. As a result, the championship appeared in a dignified and prestigious manner that befits Egypt's name before the whole world, as praised by all the participating delegations and the International Federation of the sport.
  • These achievements, medals, and positions that the members of the Egyptian national team in modern pentathlon attained, are all thanks to the success of the championship.
