Regional League Championship – First Region 2026
The Regional League Championship – First Region 2026 is one of the major sports competitions dedicated to students of universities and institutes in 6th of October City and the Greater Cairo Region. The championship is held under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in cooperation with the Egyptian Universities Sports Federation.
The championship aims to promote and enhance sports activities among university and institute students, discover and develop young sporting talents, promote fair competition, sportsmanship, and teamwork, and contribute to developing a generation of students capable of excellence and proudly representing their institutions.
The championship featured competitions in a wide range of team and individual sports, with the participation of several universities and institutes, in an atmosphere characterized by enthusiasm, strong competition, and sportsmanship.
Major Results and Competitions of the 2026 Championship
Women’s Football
Misr University for Science and Technology (MUST) secured first place and the championship title after defeating the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AAST) in the final match.
Table Tennis and Chess
The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport – Smart Village Campus hosted the Table Tennis and Chess competitions, which witnessed an enthusiastic and highly competitive atmosphere among students representing the participating universities and institutes in the region.
Closing Events
The First Sector Regional League concluded at the Al-Asmarat Youth City in Al-Mokattam, with wide student participation and a distinguished celebratory and sporting atmosphere. The event also served as part of the preparations for selecting and representing the Higher Education National Team in major upcoming sporting competitions.
The championship reflected the outstanding level of the participating students and highlighted their sporting talents and capabilities, reaffirming the importance of continuously supporting and developing university sports as one of the key elements in building students’ personalities and enhancing their abilities.

AAST Padel Tennis Teams from Smart Village and Dokki Campuses Achieve Medals in the Regional League – First Region
The Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AAST) Padel Tennis Teams representing the Smart Village and Dokki Campuses, for both male and female students, achieved an outstanding accomplishment during their first participation in the Regional League – First Region Championship for universities located in 6th of October City.
The Academy’s teams successfully secured the Silver Medal and Second Place in the Men’s Competition, in addition to the Bronze Medal and Third Place in the Women’s Competition.

AAST Women’s Basketball Team Wins the Final and Claims the Regional League – First Region Championship
The Women’s Basketball Team of the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AAST), representing the Smart Village and Dokki campuses, achieved an outstanding sporting accomplishment by winning the championship final despite competing with only five players against a full team of 12 players from October University for Science.
However, the real difference was not in numbers, but in the fighting spirit, determination, and strong will demonstrated by the AAST players.
The match witnessed a highly competitive and marathon encounter from the opening minute until the final whistle. The regulation time ended in a draw, sending both teams into an intense overtime period, where every moment became a true test of strength, concentration, and determination.
In the end, the AAST players succeeded in securing the championship by a margin of just one point, turning that single point into a major achievement and proving that this victory was not a matter of chance, but a fully deserved accomplishment for the Academy’s champions.

First Sector for Egyptian Universities and Institutes
In a competitive atmosphere filled with enthusiasm and sportsmanship, the activities of the Greater Cairo Regional League (First Sector) for Egyptian Universities and Institutes came to an end. The championship was held at Al-Asmarat Youth City in Al-Mokattam and organized by the Sports Activity Department of the General Administration for Student Welfare at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in cooperation with the Egyptian Universities and Institutes Federation.
The Greater Cairo Regional League – First Sector aims to promote sports participation among university and institute students, discover and develop sporting talents, and reinforce the values of fair competition and teamwork.
